Silver Beaver Award

The Silver Beaver Award was introduced in 1931 and is a council-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America. Recipients of this award are registered Scouters who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given at the council level.

The nominees are considered in three main areas;

  • Record of service in the Boy Scouts of America;
  • Nominee’s standing in the community, citing activities in which the individual is most active in business, professional, civic, religious, educational, fraternal, veteran, rural, and other fields exclusive of Scouting, and
  • Record of noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth within the territory under the jurisdiction of the council.

Annually, in the last quarter of the year, the Mt. Diablo Silverado Council convenes a committee of past Silver Beaver recipients from all districts to choose the next Silver Beaver class. The number of Silver Beavers awarded annually is based on the number of units in the council that year.
